Graduate Training Programmes

Graduate Training Programme 2007

This Graduate Training Programme is designed to give students an introduction to the workings, methods, products, and strategies employed in the main financial markets. A framework of understanding is created from which students can understand and analyse any relevant customer need, market opportunity or instrument, It is designed to be practical so that trainees are able to go straight to making an immediate contribution. While the course is not intended to result in the trainees pricing all instruments themselves, it is intended that they should come away confident in discussing the dynamics and sensitivities of any relevant transactions.

Methods used in The Graduate Training Programme:

Client Systems: The Graduate Training Programme will make extensive use of Bloomberg and other relevant trading systems to source and illustrate examples from the current market.

Client Terminology: Transactions, sensitivities and risks are frequently given different labels at different firms. The Terminology will be explained and defined at every stage.

Case Studies: The Graduate Training Programme will be illustrated throughout with real transactions and examples as well as more 'in depth' case studies.

Interactive Classroom Work: The trainers Robin G Brown and Peter Leahy have a highly interactive classroom style. Trainees are questioned and challenged throughout the Graduate Training programme so as to ensure that they are engaged fully in the discussion at each stage.

Presentations: The ability to present and explain ideas and products is one of the core skills. Trainees will be involved in two presentation projects.
  I. Each Morning a chosen small group will be given a presentation to the entire training group on the previous day's product or market area

II .Towards the end of the programme trainees will be required to give (in groups) a major pitch presentation .
